Position: Lead English Pastor & English Pastor/Minister

West Houston Chinese Church (WHCC) is a nondenominational church that is committed to sharing the journey of life transformation in Christ.  WHCC is seeking two pastors for Meta, our English-speaking adult congregation.  The two pastors would work as a team under the direction of the senior pastor.  The first position is for an English lead pastor.  The second position for an English pastor/minister.  Meta is a vibrant, inclusive community of God-inspired change that consists of English-speaking adults of all ages.  Meta currently has an average worship attendance of 180 adults, with 14 small groups meeting throughout the city of Houston.  For more details about WHCC and Meta, see our website at www.whcchome.org .

Primary Responsibilities:
The English pastoral team will function as part of WHCC’s pastoral staff team and work as a unit under the guidance of the Senior Pastor.  Their primary role is to lead and shepherd Meta, WHCC’s English-speaking congregation, into becoming a mature, caring and missional community of God-inspired change that lives out the Great Commission of Jesus.

Profile:

Education:          Graduate level seminary training, M.Div. or above preferred for both positions.

Experience:        Be experienced in working with both singles and families; have a creative, missional ministry mindset; conduct effective ministry trainings; be committed to a small group ministry philosophy.  An understanding of Asian-American culture and experience in a multi-staff church will be a plus.
Five to ten years of pastoral work in Asian-American church preferred for the lead English position.

Ministry Style:    Must be a people person with strong interpersonal and communication skills and a team player who is comfortable functioning within the multi-staff, multi-lingual/cultural ethnic church environment. 

Spiritual Gifts:     Must be strong in preaching and teaching, leadership and team building, capable in administration.  We are looking for team members that complement each other in gifts, strengths, and passions.

Job Description:
The English pastoral team would be expected to fulfill the following roles.

• Leadership
Provide leadership and direction in the English ministry consistent with the over-arching vision and direction of WHCC.  Guide the Meta lead team in developing and executing ministry plans and events.  Train, develop, and empower leaders to live spirit-filled lives utilizing their gifts to do the work of the ministry.  Manage ministry administrative matters with the help of office staff.

• Teaching & Preaching
As primary preacher in rotation with other pastoral staff, teach biblically and relevantly in the Meta English service to share the journey of life transformation in Christ.  Advise the Meta Pathway (English adult Sunday School) coordinator in leading the ministry team to plan, coordinate and teach Meta Pathway classes.  Initiate and coordinate trainings to equip, inspire, and mobilize people to become competent lay ministers who can make impact for Christ inside and outside of the church.

• Small Group Ministry
Lead and organize pastoral care and shepherding for the congregation through the small group ministry.  Work with the English small group deacon to provide leadership and coaching to small group leaders and coaches by equipping, supporting, and empowering them to build and lead life-changing small groups that connect with seekers, make disciples, and multiply.

• Family Ministry & Pastoral Counseling
Together with the youth minister and other pastoral staff, train and equip singles and families to live practical, God-honoring lives according to their seasons of life.  Conduct individual, family, and pre-marital counseling or refer church members to professional counseling as needed.

• Missions & Evangelism
Equip and motivate the congregation to witness for Christ and serve the community in an intentional, culturally-relevant way.  Mobilize people to support and participate in the mission and evangelism effort of WHCC both in Houston and around the world.  Work with the missions deacon and committee to cast a missions vision and participate in missions trips.
