West Houston Chinese Church (WHCC) is a non-denominational evangelical Christian church with 800+ members, holding services in English, Mandarin Chinese, and Cantonese. We are a growing congregation and seek staff who want to use their talents and skills to help build the kingdom of God.

This position is full-time and includes a competitive benefits package (health, dental, and term life insurance as well as a 403B retirement package). The position includes a continuing education budget and flexibility to pursue your studies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of children ministry experience required (preferably in a church setting)
  • Christian College or seminary degree preferred
  • Collaborative team player who can work with a multi-cultural staff and environment.
  • Self-starter who can independently lead an entire ministry, its staff, and volunteers.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks at the same time with strong organizational, people, and communication skills
  • Agrees with WHCC statement of faith

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Leadership
  • Refine and cast children’s ministry vision to staff, teachers, and other ministries.
  • Disciple, train, and develop children’s ministry deacon, coordinators, and teachers.
  • Advocate for the children’s ministry to the Pastoral Staff Team.
  • Collaborate with other ministries to coordinate special program opportunities.
  • Update church council with children’s ministry events and decisions.
  • Remain current on trends, teaching methods, materials, promotional ideas, and other children’s ministry techniques.
  1. Sunday School Program
  • Oversee the development and implementation of classes and execute curriculum efficiently.
  • Recruit and retain teachers for the Sunday children’s program.
  • Study and understand the spiritual and developmental needs of children.
  • Plan teachers’ retreat, appreciation, and annual teacher training events.
  1. Children’s Special Programs
  • Lead special children’s programs (Easter, Mother’s and Father’s Day performances, Infant dedication).
  • Coordinate and provide resources for all children’s programs for church-wide events (prayer meetings,Good Friday program, church retreats, missions conference, Christmas evening service, etc.)
  • Develop new children programs as needed within our church and the greater community.
  1. Caring Ministry
  • Meet with children and families as needed to help provide care, support, or guidance.
  • Care for children’s ministry leaders and volunteer workers.
  • Send regular updates on the ministry and prayer requests to teachers and parents
  • Assist in educating adults about parenting and children issues.

New Hope Christian Church (NHCC), a church plant of West Houston Chinese Church (WHCC), is an evangelical, Bible-believing church. We meet every Sunday morning and hold Chinese and English services at 7575 Alden Bridge Dr. The Woodlands, TX 77382. Our Sunday attendance is on average 230 people, which includes a Chinese congregation (130 adults,) an English Congregation (50 adults with youth), and 50+ children. We are looking for a spiritually mature Chinese pastor with leadership gifts to meet our growing ministry needs.

Qualifications

• Language Skills: Mandarin Chinese preaching & English speaking and writing, other dialect or language a plus.

• Education: Graduate level seminary training, M.Div. or above preferred.

• Experience: Pastoral experience in a North American Chinese church or ministering young professionals experience preferred.

• Ministry Style: Must be a team player who is comfortable functioning within a multiple-staff structure.

• Spiritual Gifts: Preaching, teaching, and leadership.

• Doctrines: Non-charismatic evangelical; must be in full agreement with NHCC doctrinal statement

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Leadership
· Provide leadership and direction in the assigned area of Chinese ministries in accordance with church vision.
· Disciple and mentor ministry leaders.
· Coach a team of small group leaders and apprentices in the assigned ministry zone.
· Function effectively and smoothly as a member of the staff team.

2. Teaching & Preaching:
· Preach in the Mandarin Chinese service.
· Teach adult Sunday School.
· Provide on-site supervision for programs and special events.
· Conduct ministry trainings.

3. Caring Ministry
· Provide caring & shepherding
· Conduct visitation as needed.
· Conduct counseling for individuals and families as needed
· Assist in family ministries in small group and church

4. Missions & Evangelism
· Model and train people in evangelism.
· Support the overall missions and evangelism effort of the church.

5. Administration
· Report to Senior Pastor and attend monthly church council meetings.
· Share administrative duties assigned within the staff team.
· Work with church staff to support general ministry needs.
· Attend weekly staff meetings.
· Meet with Senior Pastor periodically for accountability and overall church involvement.

Qualifications

  • Must be a born-again Christian
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited educational institution. A CPA is preferred.
  • Practical experience in fund‐based accounting and account reconciliationwith at least two years’ accounting operations experience preferably with a church or nonprofit organization.
  • Bilingual Chinese and English (verbal, writing, typing) preferred.
  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in computer skills including MS Word, Excel, accounting software (e.g. Quickbooks), and donor database software (TouchPoint ChMS).
  • Attention to detail and precision in account reconciliation and report generation.
  • A commitment to confidentiality regarding all account records, both of the church and staff, and the members
  • Must be a forward-thinking individual with a desire to help the team win through increased organizational effectiveness
  • Personal integrity and self-motivation in the fulfillment of ministry.
  • Maintain a servant’s heart and a cooperative team spirit with staff, volunteers and congregation
  • Willingness (teachable) to learn new technology and other skills
  • Regular church attendance is required (attendance at WHCC is preferred)

RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide support to the Executive Minister/Pastor in all aspects of the accounting process including, but not limited to the following:

  • Oversee and perform all financial operations related to WHCC including contributions, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and 1099, general ledger, annual budget, cash management, and compliance with applicable federal, state and city filings, laws and regulations.
  • Ensure weekly contributions to general fund and donor designated funds are recorded.
  • Enter all invoices submitted for payment, cut checks, submit for signatures, and prepare for mailing on a timely basis.
  • Prepare donor communications e.g. quarterly/annual giving statements.
  • Balance checking account and investment accounts and submit reconciliation to treasurer for signature.
  • Prepare monthly reports for the Church Council and individual ministry teams and year‐end financial reports for annual meeting.
  • Develop and maintain financial systems and policies to ensure effective stewardship of church resources.
  • Submit to the church treasurer and executive minister a listing of all checks written during the month.
  • Provide long-term planning, forecasting and modeling of trends and strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare for and cooperate with those appointed to perform a yearly audit of financial records.
  • Oversee and perform all financial operations related to the church’s non-profit arm including contributions, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and 1099, general ledger, annual budget, cash management, and compliance with applicable federal, state and city filings, laws and regulations.
